Apple Cider Dressing (gluten free, vegan, paleo, whole 30)

I love when you share my recipes!

My go-to Apple Cider Dressing in the fall! Made with maple syrup and Dijon, this dressing is raw and full of healthy ingredients. Gluten free, vegan, + allergy friendly.

This apple cider dressing is gluten free, vegan, top 8 allergy free, and paleo. Not bad for a simple little dressing!

I love to make this in the autumn when the apple cider is fresh from my local cider mills. Apples are probably my favorite fruit to eat so of course I had to transform them into a salad dressing!

Free From: wheat, gluten, dairy, casein, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, coconut, fish, shellfish, crustaceans, mollusks, celery, corn, sesame, mustard, lupin, sulfites, and more

Ways to Use Apple Cider Dressing

Obviously, you can pop this on salad, as I’ve done in these photos. But there are so many other ways I love this dressing! Here are some ideas:

  • Marinated Meat / Tofu – this makes for an amazing marinate for your protein of choice. I usually use this on chicken or tofu and then fry it up in the skillet or bake in the oven.
  • Apple Slaw – Combine cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and apples with this dressing for a quick and easy slaw.
  • Marinated Veggies – Okay, basically the same principle as the meat, but this time the veggie version. Try this with red onions, zucchini, bell peppers, and potatoes roasted on the grill.

Apple Cider vs Apple Cider Vinegar

Though similar in name, apple cider and apple cider vinegar are two very different things.

Apple Cider is a drink made from apples. It can also be called sweet cider, non-alcoholic cider, or just plain cider depending on where you live. It is made by harvesting apples, pressing them into juice, minimally filtering them, and pasteurizing for safe drinking.

Apple cider is like the more raw and unfiltered version of apple juice. A lot of the pulp is left in the apple cider as opposed to the super filtered juice. So if you can’t find apple cider where you live, swap it for apple juice for a very similar drink.

It also is very healthy to drink as it is! Due to having more of the apple skin and pulp left behind in the making, it has more fiber in the cider as well as more vitamins and minerals.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a type of vinegar that has been made from apples. First, they ferment the apples into natural sugar alcohol, then add specific bacterias to make the vinegar. This is not really recommended that you drink a giant glass of it but adding a spoonful to a glass of water can be beneficial in some aspects.

So which to use in this recipe?

The version that I make in my home all the time is with apple cider NOT apple cider vinegar. If you can’t get apple cider, again, try making this with juice.

How to Make Apple Cider Dressing

One step to making this dressing! Place all ingredients in a medium sized jar (like a mason jar), cover tightly, and give it a good shake! Alternatively you can place all ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together before transferring to a jar or storage vessel.

That’s it! Which is one of the other reasons I love this dressing so much. It is so easy to make!

To store this dressing, keep it in the jar you made it in, or transfer to an airtight container. Will keep for a week in the fridge.

Allergy Variations for Apple Cider Dressing

To replace the mustard, swap out the Dijon mustard for 1/2 tsp of horseradish or remove from the recipe.

To replace the Apple Cider, swap out for an equal amount of apple juice and add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.
